Making a Music Cabinet
It takes lots of cardboard boxes to make this cabinet. Building up strength in the relatively narrow cardboard walls is vital.
It needs to support a lot of weight without being bulky. I read John Sheratons furniture manuals for help. 18th century ingenuity with 21st century materials.
Painting each piece to resemble oak and walnut burr veneer is a slow and painstaking process but one which I enjoy immensely – and not just because I love the smell of gloss varnish. Art deco inspired shapes work very well with the curved and slightly off kilter nature of the structure.
Music cabinet doing it’s job – nicely packed with records beneath and cradling the record player above. Hinged lid and lead openings makes for a functional and attractive piece.
